The Illinois State Library (ISL) is a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. The Illinois State Library provides leadership for ILLINET, the statewide consortium of over 3,300 academic, public, school, and special libraries in Illinois.

The Illinois State Library's mission is implemented through its Collections, Divisions and Programs.

The major ISL service and information programs include:

• Calendar of Illinois State Library events.
• ELI (Every Library in ILLINET) Directory of Illinois Libraries providing basic contact information on over 3000 Illinois libraries.
• Access to Electronic Resources including
  • Find-It, the Web Portal for access to electronic information,
  • Illinois Government Information (IGI), an indexed search engine for locating current and archived state and local documents.
• Grant Programs for Illinois Libraries.
• ILLINET Information Services such as Interlibrary Loan and Reference.
• Illinois Regional Library Systems.
• Secretary of State Literacy Office.
• Reading Initiatives to encourage a love of reading.
• Outreach Programs and Specialized Services including the Blind and Physically Handicapped Programs, the Illinois Talking Book Centers.
• Publications including Illinois Libraries and Insight newsletter (available online).
