The Illinois Waste Management and Research Center (WMRC), a division of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Office of Scientific Research and Analysis, was created by the Illinois General Assembly and Governor James R. Thompson in 1984 and given independent statutory recognition in 1989. WMRC's programs include research, pollution prevention technical assistance, alternative energy consulting services, laboratory services, and information services. The Library's subject strengths include pollution prevention, household hazardous waste, industrial process engineering, alternative energy (particularly biofuels), environmental policy, environmental education, and analytical chemistry. The Library collection does not circulate to the general public, although visitors are welcome to use the library's materials on-site. The Library also accepts interlibrary loan requests. Please call for an appointment before visiting to ensure that staff is available to assist with information requests.
