Please welcome Mary Dry, the new Business Manager at Lincoln Trail Libraries System.  Mary began on February 6, 2006.   She has a BS degree in Business Administration and is one class short of completing her MBA degree. Mary brings a lot of experience in managing administrative and business operations to the position.

Rantoul Public Library is hosting the following Black History Lectures by Sisi Donald Mosby:  February 11, Malcom X;  February 18, The Place of Black History in American History Part 1; and February 25, The Place of Black History in American History Part 2. All lectures begin at 2 p.m. and are free to the public.

Watseka Public Library has received a "super surplus" of IRS 1040A Instruction booklets for 2005.  Please contact Dave Klinefelter at Watseka Public Library (815-432-4544) if you need extra copies of this booklet.

Applications are being accepted for the Illinois State Library's 12th Annual Institute for School and Public Librarians. This week of library related educational activities will be June 11-16, 2006 on the campus of Bradley University in Peoria. Attendees are immersed into a library curriculum that focuses on basic skills and knowledge needed by school and public librarians, such as reference, collection development, working with people, technology issues, grants, and more.  The only cost incurred by participants is a $50 registration fee.  Apply by March 24, 2006.  The announcement and application can be found under “events” at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/whats_new/home.html.  Additional information may be obtained from Karen Egan and Ron Winner at 800-665-5576, Ext 1.

LTLS has a supply of attractive table-top posters and brochures promoting the Talking Book Service to blind and physically handicapped patrons, as well as application forms for patrons to register for the free service through the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center.  MITBC, one of 5 regional talking book centers, serves patrons of LTLS libraries. 2006 - 73

The Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois is offering a new book arts workshop, "Working with Leather: Exposed Sewn Binding," with Bea Nettles, March 4-5, 2006, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily, Noble Hall Room 20.  The registration fee is $195 (includes $25 supply fee for leather, glue, boards, and paper).  For additional information and to register, go to http://www.lis.uiuc.edu/programs/cpd/book-arts.html.
