Established with help from a Carnegie grant in 1903-4, the Paxton Carnegie Library is proud of 95 years of continuous service to the community of Paxton and is today a tax-supported public library. The original building's architectural design features, including a galvanized iron dome, marble fireplace, and landscaped setting, have been carefully preserved. The collection holdings have grown from 2,000 books in 1904 to 20,693 volumes, 94 periodicals, large collection of audio books, large print, and videos, access to films, filmstrips, games, and other media. The library provides community outreach to nursing homes, schools, Ford County Jail, and community organizations and conducts story hours in and out of the library, film programs, special displays, and book discussions. The library started plans and secured money for accessibility in 1990. The Library is now completely accessible. A reading room and a children's library were created in 1997. The library went online with LINC in 2001.
