UPCOMING MEETINGS

LINC Policy Council – July 13, 1:30-4:30

2005 - 081 FY2006 LINC COSTS
The final FY2006 LINC Cost sheet has been posted at: http://www.ltls.org/linccommittees/ldg/LINCFY2006sharedcosts.html. The first page (LINCCostFY06) is a total of all costs, both Cataloging Center and Central Site combined. These costs are explained in more detail in the second and third pages. The second tab lists LTLS Cataloging Center costs only. The third tab lists Central Site costs only. Bills for the first quarter will be sent out soon.

2005 - 082 WEBFEAT 3.0

An upgrade to WebFeat, version 3.0, has been completed. WebFeat is the consolidated search product that is available from the LINCPac Databases tab. This product allows patrons to input one search term and search across 12 databases at the same time.

Although the appearance of this product has changed little, there is new functionality included with this upgrade. This is what is new:

1. A search on all resources can be limited to publication date ranges
2. A search can a be set to return full text results only
3. Searching is faster
4. Results can be sorted by relevancy, title, author, or date.
5. You can print individual (and multiple) hits after you select them.
6. You can email individual/multipe hits after you select them.
7. You can save individual/multiple hits to a file on your desktop after you select them.

WebFeat version 3.0 also has a new url which may need to be cleared if you use filtering software in your library. The url for WebFeat 3.0 is: http://search3.webfeat.org/wf3_lincoln.html.

2005 - 083 DYNIX MERGER ANNOUNCED
We just received word of the merger of the LINC library automation company, Dynix, with Sirsi, another library automation company. We have few details at this time, but read the press release at: http://www.sirsidynix.com/releases.html.

2005 - 084 RPA

Remote Patron Authentication is now working. This Horizon product is being used to authenticate patron access to reference databases. This product is invoked on LINCPac, when patrons click on the Databases tab. In a library that has its own LINCPac and has provided us with ip numbers for its workstations, the patron will not see the authentication page. If the patron is accessing this resource from outside the library, they will be required to input their patron barcode to get access to the reference resources.

If your library uses filtering software, the RPA server needs to be cleared to give access to the databases within your library. The url for RPA is: http://209.174.169.6/rpa/webauth.exe?.

2005 - 085  HORIZON 7.4/LINPAC 4.0 RELEASED

Dynix has announced the general release of Horizon 7.4 and LINCPac 4.0. We have requested a date for this upgrade during the first part of August, although this has not yet been confirmed. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Dynix has also announced the recommended PC specifications for workstations that will utilize Horizon 7.4 and LINCPac 4.0. Please check these specifications at: http://www.ltls.org/HorizonUpgrade/Horizon_Specs.htm and make sure the workstations in your library adhere to these requirements.

2005 - 086  PIP (PURGE INACTIVE PATRONS)
The PIP procedure was completed on June 16. A total of 8,554 inactive patrons were deleted.

2005 - 087  CREATE ITEM REPORT
The author field has been added to the results display on the Create Item Report. You can also sort by this field if needed once results are returned.
