Alice Cisna called the meeting to order at 1:30. Upon motion by Kathy second by Mary, the minutes from the January 18 meeting were approved.
The main discussion of the meeting focused on the recommendation by the Local Holds Committee. This policy is included here:
Local Holds 9-month Trial Period
- LINC libraries may choose to implement local holds during the trial period. This will require a local itype for each library. Items set to local hold will accept holds from any borrower, regardless of where they come from, but the item must be picked up at the owning library. For local hold materials only, this will allow borrowers to continue to place requests on those items, as long as the patron is willing to travel to the owning library to pickup the item. Patrons will also receive accurate information, at the time of requesting, whether this item is available to them or not.
- This test will be implemented June 1, 2006. The Local Holds committee will review the trial process by December 1, 2006, and report findings to LINC Policy Council no later than March 2007. In April 2007, comments will be solicited from LINC library directors. LINC Policy Council will meet May 2007 to determine whether to continue with implementation of local holds or not.
After much discussion, a motion was made by Mary, second by Fred, to accept this recommendation. The vote was as follows: Alice – no, Anne – yes, Mary – yes, Fred – yes, Kathy – yes, Barb – yes, Lynn – no, Cynthia – not present for vote.
Other discussion focused on a preview of the Spanish LINCPac, new reports available with WebReporter 4.1, the LLSAP automation grants awarded to 8 libraries by the ISL, the process of converting libraries from MyLibrarian to AskAway, the statewide virtual reference project, and the impact of libraries purchasing 3rd party products that need to interact with Horizon.
Alice and others thanked Mary Bissey, Barb Turner, Lynn Schmit, and Cynthia Helms for their service to LINC Policy Council.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:05.
